Cradle Mountain

One of the most famous locations in Tasmania is Cradle Mountain which is the home of a 4 star resort, a beautiful lake that reflects the unique mountain top, and the base of a famous 4 day trek that is considered to be the best in Australia. The lodge was booked while I was there and the trek too long but the hike around Dove Lake was worth the trip.

Mole Creek Caverns are nearby and feature a view of a cave lit by glowworms. Unfortunately picture taking of the glow worms is not allowed because of a fear that someone would leave on the flash. Not that I would ever forget. The glow worms are not worms more like stationary fireflies.

Like many places in Southern Australia and Tasmania, Northern Australia is the host of Penguin colonies. Tours are usually available each night where you can sit in bleachers and watch the small Penguins waddle onto land for the night. And yes they have had these tours long before penguin marches became a movie.

Australia in many ways has an attitude like Texans - they like things BIG. They have a Big Banana, a big guitar, and for the North coast city of Penguin they have a Big Penguin.

This Lighthouse is in Devonport Tasmania.

Crossing Tasmania often means crossing green rolling fields..

But then you also get to Binalong on the edge of the Bay of Fire which Conde Nash rated as the number 3 beach in the world.

Next stop Freycinet

Or return to Australia
